Driveway Permit

Cuts in the curb for driveways require a permit. Citizens must complete and submit a Driveway Permit Application along with plans or sketch with the appropriate dimensions of the proposed driveway to the Traffic Engineering Department at 1100 W. Gwinnett St., emailed, or fax to (912) 525-1535. Call (912) 651-6600 for more information.

The Traffic Engineering Director, or his designee, will inspect the site and review plans and/or sketch to determine if the site meets minimum conditions for approval of the driveway. The Traffic Engineering Department will evaluate and process the application in a maximum of four working days from the date the application was received by the Traffic Engineering Department.

In addition to Traffic Engineering, the application form will be forwarded to the Streets Department, Park and Tree Department, and the Storm Water Department (if applicable) for review and approval. .

Your permit must be posted at the work site.

  • Due to the Pandemic, no walk-ins for permitting services are being accepted.  All applications must be submitted via FAX: 912-525-1535 or EMAIL: trafficpermits@savannahga.gov.    
  • Invoiced fees can be paid using most credit cards online via eTRAC. To sign up, users must click "Register" on the eTRAC site & provide the required information. See link for guidance: http://www.savannahga.gov/1027/eTRAC
  • For customers that are unable to submit applications and/or fees electronically, use drop-box next to main entrance of the Traffic Engineering Office (1100 W. Gwinnett Street, Building B). *No personal checks or cash will be accepted – Only cashier checks, money orders, or local company checks*

Fees and Conditions
Application fees are determined by the type of driveway proposed.

• Residential driveway: $75

• Commercial driveway: $125 per entrance

All fees should be paid via cashier’s check or money order payable to “City of Savannah”. Submit fees to the Traffic Engineering Department:

  • ONLY permit applications for essential work (critical service repairs or installations) will be accepted. Applications for non-essential work or requests that can be rescheduled will not be accepted until further notice.
