All Speeds Wheel
4 Week Class: Tuesdays, May 7th – May 28th, 5:30pm-8:30 pm

Learn how to use basic tools and techniques to shape clay into functional forms on the pottery wheel. Students will work on refining their skills as they work at their own pace and receive individual attention. This class is limited to 12 students.

Beginning Wheel 
4 Week Class: Tuesdays, May 7th – May 28th, 9:30am-12:30 pm

Ages 17+

This introductory class teaches the basics of throwing clay on the potter’s wheel. Trimming and decorative techniques will be taught to give each vessel its own flair. Students will work at their own pace and receive individual attention. 

Sculptural and Functional Handbuilding in Clay 
4 Week Class – Dates TBD

Ages 17+

Learn how to design and make hand-built pottery and ceramic sculpture using various techniques such as slab construction, coil pots, pinch pots, extruder construction, and surface texture.

The potter’s wheel will also be incorporated for those interested in learning how to use the wheel as a tool for making sculptural and functional objects. Thrown and altered forms will be explored. Glazing will also be covered under this program. Students will be encouraged to expand on what they have learned and to take projects in their own direction during the class. Beginners welcome.

Handbuilding: Independent Study with Instructor
4 Week Class: Wednesdays, May 8th – 29th, 5:30pm-8:30 pm

This class allows students time to practice skills learned in current or previous clay classes with the guidance of our skilled instructor Dave to offer insight while you create. 

Advanced Projects in Handbuilding 
4 Week Class: Thursdays, May 9th – May 30th, 1:30pm-4:30 pm

Ages 17+

Advanced hand building is for the experienced clay student who is ready to realize a personal goal in clay. Working independently, you will pursue your own ceramic project objectives. We will have small weekly class projects to build skills in intermediate techniques including pinching, coiling, and working with slabs. We will discuss technique, idea development, and good design and problem-solving. Come with ideas, personal challenges, and a sense of adventure. Experience required.

Ceramic Sampler
4 Week Class: Fridays, May 10th – May 31st, 9:30am-12:30 pm

Ages 16+

Can’t decide between wheel throwing or hand-building? Try the Ceramic Sampler where you get to try your hand at both! This class is perfect for beginners. Students will make a different project while learning a new technique each week. Wheel throwing, a range of hand-building techniques, and glazing are all covered during this fun, intensive class. 

After School Ceramics 
4 Week Class: Tuesdays, May 7th – May 28th, 3:30pm-5:30 pm

Beginner Level (ages 7-11)

This introductory clay class will teach young students the fundamentals of hand building and sculpture. Students will work with coils and slabs and a variety of glazes.

Intro to Ceramic Sculpture 
4 Week Class: Mondays, May 6th – June 3rd (NO Memorial Day Class), 5:30pm-8:30 pm

In the introduction to ceramic sculpture class, we will explore a variety of concepts, materials, and techniques in ceramic sculpture, emphasizing advanced hand building, figurative work, mold making, and glaze techniques. 

After School Ceramics – Teen Wheel 
4 Week Class: Wednesdays, May 8th – May 29th, 3:30pm-5:30 pm

Beginner Level (ages 12-15)

Our teen classes provide a basic introduction to the potters' wheel. We offer instruction on wheel throwing steps, surface treatments, and glazing techniques.  We welcome students of all levels of ability and encourage free expression in both functional and non-functional ware.  

Raku 
Four Week Class – Dates TBD
Instructor: Clair Buckner
Ages 17+

This ancient Japanese ceramic firing technique in which 1800° glowing red hot works are removed from the kiln and placed into a reduction chamber filled with combustibles is sure to inflame and inspire. This is an advanced techniques class focusing on alternative firing methods. We will explore traditional Raku as well as horsehair and saggar firing. Students will make their own pots to experiment on using different clay bodies. Ceramics experience is required.

Advanced Raku

This is the second part of our raku series. Prior Raku experience is required. We will be expanding on previously sampled techniques, such as raku glazes, naked raku, horse hair, and obvara. Students will be encouraged to focus on a favorite finishing technique in order to develop a better understanding of the processes at work. We will have open discussions and “what if why not" friendly critiques.

This intermediate to advanced level clay class will cover a variety of forms including serving bowls, handbuilt platters, butter dishes, and more! We will encourage creativity and diversity in form and function as we celebrate our love of food and entertaining! Surface decoration and glazing will also be a focus. Experience needed

Raku 006

Sushi Ceramics
Four Week Class – Dates TBD

Ages 17+, 

This class is perfect for beginners, or those who want to nail down the basics of hand building. Utilize simple hand building methods to create sushi plates, teacups, and small bowls for a sushi lunch. Methods include slab, coil, pinch, molds, use of texture, underglaze and glaze. Beginners welcome.

Kick It Up: Throwing Bigger and Better
Four Week Class – Dates TBD

Ages 17+, 

If you can center a pound or two of clay on the wheel, you belong here. We’ll work on bigger bowls, platters, plates, functional work that you want to take home and use. If you have greater skills, we’ll use them to make you even better. Join us and have some fun. Experience needed.

Savannah Scavenger Ceramics: Exploring Local Textures

Ages 17+, 

Savannah is a beautiful city steeped in history and full of tactile experiences. In this class, we will explore our unique surroundings and collect various textures which can be used as stamps and rollers to incorporate Savannah in your work for years to come. No prior experience needed.

Fashion your own boat using clay slabs and a basic template as a foundation to build on. You will construct your own raft, dinghy, cruiser or barge. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Parent participation required for students under 14.
