Residents presented with Good Neighbor Award

A resident who mentors youth and one who provides aid to his neighbors in need were the recipients of the Good Neighbor Award, presented by City Council today.

The winners, announced during the regular City Council meeting, were Mr. Ezekiel Brown and Mr. Raymond Arrington. The two were recognized publicly and presented with Good Neighbor Award plaques by Mayor Eddie DeLoach and Alderwoman Dr. Estella Shabazz, their council representative.

About the Good Neighbor Awards recipients:

Mr. Ezekiel Brown

  • Community organizer—encourages residents of all ages to join the community association
  • Transports elderly and disabled residents to hospitals, grocery stores, doctor’s appointments
  • Acts as a mentor, talking to young people about the importance of helping in the community
  • Chairman of the Beautification Committee
  • Member of the Men of Liberty City—participating in litter clean ups, and sponsoring scholarships for high school graduates

Mr. Raymond Arrington

  • Provides respite care for neighbors, elderly and children in need
  • Provides meals for less fortunate residents
  • Provides shelter to those who have lost their homes or are in transition
  • Served as foster parent
  • President of Leedsgate Neighborhood Association—reviving the once defunct association
  • Performs property repairs and cuts lawns for neighbors who are disabled or unable to pay for services

The Good Neighbor Award is a way to recognize citizens who improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods every day through acts large and small.

Good Neighbor Award recipients must be:

  • A resident of the City of Savannah
  • Have made contributions to their neighborhoods or to Savannah
  • Have demonstrated concern for their neighborhood’s well-being or overall quality of life for the City of Savannah
  • Not be employed by the City of Savannah
