New WWI Exhibit on Display at City Hall
SAVANNAH, GA (March 9, 2018)— The Office of Municipal Archives is opening a new exhibit to the public next Wednesday featuring items from Savannah during World War I.
In honor of the centennial anniversary of the signing of the Armistice of World War I, the City of Savannah presents “Remembering the Great War.” On display at City Hall through December 2018, “Remembering the Great War” commemorates the contributions and sacrifices made by citizens of Savannah during World War I.
To celebrate the opening of the exhibit, a special program, “Remembering the Great War,” will be held on Wednesday March 14, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. in the City Hall Media Room. The program will feature Britni Dellinger, Historic Preservation intern from Savannah College of Art & Design, sharing her research on Chatham County’s World War I fallen, as well as Kelly Zacovic and Luciana Spracher, of the City’s Municipal Archives, sharing lesser known stories of Savannah and World War I. This program is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required. Please contact Luciana Spracher at Lspracher@savannahga.gov or (912) 651-6411 to register.
The exhibit features artifacts, documents, and photographs through generous loans from members of our community and Savannah-area historical institutions, as well as items preserved in the City’s Municipal Archives. The exhibit is on display in the first floor rotunda and second floor Council Chamber.
City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The rotunda exhibit are accessible to the public at all times the building is open.
