City Wraps up 2019 St. Patrick’s Day Festival

SAVANNAH, GA (March 18, 2019) — The City of Savannah has concluded the 2019 St. Patrick’s Day festival. Hundreds of City employees from several departments worked through the weekend including code enforcement, fire, greenscapes, parking services, police, public communication, revenue, sanitation, special events, and others.

“It was a great St. Patrick’s Day,” said Mayor Eddie DeLoach. We had a plan and we executed that plan.”

The 2019 festival had 19 arrests, down from 29 in 2018. 64 vehicles were towed from the parade route, Indian Street and other restricted festival areas.

SPD issued 247 traffic citations which included 12 DUI arrests. Traffic citations were down from 415 in 2018. The SPD ABC unit completed 31 business checks, 16 businesses failed those compliance checks.

Parking services issued 834 parking citations which included the following:

  • 265- Vehicle in a no parking area
  • 223- Overtime on a meter during Friday
  • 104- Parking on a yellow line
  • 64- Parking in a freight zone
  • 55- Expired tags

625 pre-sale parking spaces were purchases for City garages this year. Parking Services announced they plan to pre-sale parking spaces online for the 2020 festival. Parking Services received 80 motor coaches during the festival, 5 were cited for not having a permit.

The City of Savannah Greenscapes Department beautified 128 square yards of City parks and right-of-ways around the historic downtown and festival areas. The City of Savannah Sanitation Department removed 183 tons of trash during the festival which is equivalent to 23.5 million solo cups of waste.

Chatham Area Transit shuttles had 7,740 riders. 6,200 of those riders came from the Island Towne Centre and Savannah Mall locations.
