This week marks another 2016 open enrollment session for the Savannah Impact Program’s Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) initiative, focused on educational and workforce development for youth.

WIOA seeks to assist eligible youth, ages 16-24, in achieving academic and employment success through effective and comprehensive activities geared toward workforce development, adult education, GED completion, community outreach, supportive services, etc. Applicants may also be eligible for paid work experience.

Since 2008, SIP’s WIOA program has been funded by the US Department of Labor (DOL) through Coastal Workforce Services.

Eligible candidates must be United States citizens and residents of Chatham County, Georgia who are not currently enrolled in school. They must come from low income households and possess an employment barrier, as defined by the DOL.

WIOA open enrollment periods through June include: April 11-15 and May 9-13. June is open. To date, SIP has enrolled 32 youths, with a goal of 85 by June 30.

SIP is a specialized unit within the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, primarily focusing on high risk and at risk youth and adults. The SIP collaborative is comprised of sworn and civilian police personnel as well as numerous community supervision agencies to include the Department of Community Supervision, Chatham County Juvenile Court and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
