[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

Date: April 7, 2017

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 327 Linwood Road at 9:05 a.m. on Friday, April 7. The spill was the result of a damaged sewer main. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 3500 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 10:15 a.m. City crews dammed up the canal to contain the spill and initiated repairs to the sewer main pipe. Crews also set up by-pass pumps and removed the storm/sewage mix of water from the canal with City vacuum trucks. Spill notifications will be placed at the spill site and at Bells Landing on Apache Road. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
