For Immediate Release

SAVANNAH, GA (December 12, 2017)— City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 12:37 p.m. today, December 12, at 224 West Boundary Street. An estimated 2,520 gallons spilled before the spill was corrected at 1:05 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was due to a control failure which caused a manhole to overflow. Crews corrected the control failure and cleaned the spill site with City Jet-Vac trucks. Spill notifications were placed at the spill site, West Bryan Street / Springfield Canal, and on Hutchinson Island near Corps of Engineers site. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
