On Thursday, Oct. 28, the Savannah City Council unanimously approved the city manager to execute a contract with P3 Venture Group to develop the Fairgrounds property, located at 4701 Meding St., in Savannah's Fifth District.
City Manager Jay Melder recommended the council approve the development plan submitted by P3 Venture Group, stating the other two proposals did not meet compulsory traffic requirements.
P3 Venture Group presented its plan to the council in July.
The development concept includes youth recreation facilities, a production studio, a career center, an array of single, multi-family and senior housing, neighborhood retail and park space. Proposed new rights-of-way include sidewalks, street trees and on-street parking.
P3 Venture Group will now be required to enter into a development agreement with the city further to clarify this partnership's deliverables, timeline and requirements. The first step will be engaging the communities surrounding the Fairgrounds.
