City and partners to provide cold weather services to the unhoused this weekend
SAVANNAH (Dec. 22) – Ahead of the forecast for extremely cold weather in Savannah this weekend, the City of Savannah, Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH), and Union Mission, are partnering to provide services to keep unhoused individuals warm this weekend.
The following services will be available:
- Day Center at Grace House (120 Fahm St.) will be open Friday, Saturday and Monday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Emergency Warming Center at the Tompkins Community Center, 2333 Ogeechee Rd., will be open when temperatures, to include windchill, are below 20 degrees, Friday through Sunday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The warming center will be staffed by City of Savannah and CSAH.
- Transportation will be provided by CSAH nightly from 6 to 11 p.m. and can be accessed by calling 912-790-3400. CSAH will also have outreach staff working throughout the weekend.
It is important to note that the Emergency Warming Center is a shelter of last resort to provide a safe location during extreme weather. Other shelter partners at Inner City, Salvation Army, and Union Mission may have beds available based upon capacity in each facility.
