City crews respond to major sewage spill on Derenne Avenue
SAVANNAH (Jan. 4) – City of Savannah Sewer Conveyance staff responded to a major sewage spill on Jan. 2 at 7 East Derenne Avenue in Savannah.
The spill resulted from a sewer main collapse under East Derenne Avenue, which caused a manhole to overflow at the intersection of White Bluff Road and East Derenne Avenue. An estimated 58,150 gallons spilled before being corrected yesterday afternoon. State Environmental Protection Division guidelines classify this as a major spill, which is a spill over 10,000 gallons.
The City is making spill notifications via a news release and area signage. All agencies (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and the City of Savannah Office of Marketing and Communications) were notified per state guidelines
