City crews respond to sewage spill

SAVANNAH (June 23) – City of Savannah Sewer Conveyance staff responded to a sewage spill on June 23 at 3102 Islands Expressway.

The spill resulted from a force main failure on Lift Station #131. An estimated 29,180 gallons spilled before the break was repaired. State Environmental Protection Division guidelines classify this as a major spill, which is a spill over 10,000 gallons.

The City is distributing spill notifications via a news release and area signage. All agencies (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and the City of Savannah Office of Marketing and Communications) were notified per state guidelines.
