City Offices To Close In Observance Of Labor Day

Sanitation collection impacted; Recycling collection suspended

SAVANNAH (Sept. 1, 2023) – City of Savannah administrative offices and facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of Labor Day. Emergency services will remain open.

Sanitation services will not be operational on Monday, but will resume on Tuesday, Sep. 5, with all collections for the week delayed by one day. Following Hurricane Idalia, sanitation collection services resumed Thursday on a modified schedule and will continue through Friday.

The Dean Forest Road Landfill will be closed for drop-offs Monday, Sept. 4, and will resume normal operations Tuesday, Sept. 5. Bacon Park Transfer Station will be closed for drop-offs on Monday, Sept. 4 and will resume normal operations on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

In response to Hurricane Idalia cleanup efforts, recycling services will suspend operations for two weeks. Residents are encouraged to hold their recyclables until regular collections resume or use single-stream, drop-off facilities. Normal recycling operations will resume Thursday, Sept. 14.

Residents who have an excess of spoiled waste material due to power outages and a loss of refrigeration may use recycling carts for garbage overflow. Recycling left curbside will be collected with garbage.

Vegetative debris should be set out according to normal yard waste guidelines. Residents should understand that large piles require special heavy lift equipment. Thus, some waste collection will take longer to complete. Additional guidelines on debris collection will be shared in the coming days.

For questions about City services or to submit a service request, residents can call 311. Service requests can also be submitted online at Savannahga.gov/311request.

For more information on sanitation services, contact Sanitation Department customer service at 912-651-6579.
