[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

For Immediate Release
Date: November 13, 2015

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 1 Knowlton Way at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015. The spill was caused by a lift station force main break. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 50 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 12:40 p.m., Friday, November 13. City crews shut the lift station off, contained residual waters and kept them from further entering the storm drainage system. Spill notifications were posted at the spill site, at St. Augustine Creek and on Crossroads Parkway where ditch crosses. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
