Lead Free Savannah

Lead Free Savannah is the City's initiative to meet a new set of US Environmental Protection Agency(USEPA) rules regarding lead in drinking water. Savannah's water meets all USEPA and Georgia drinking water standards. Lead is not found in either the Floridan Aquifer or Abercorn Creek which are Savannah's two sources of drinking water.

On October 16, 2024, the City of Savannah submitted our water service line inventory. This inventory classifies water service lines on the public and private side. Savannah's inventory is available to our customers in the form of a map. Access Savannah's inventory here

If you cannot find your address in the inventory map, please email Savannah Water Resources

Even though lead is not present in Savannah's drinking water sources, water can come into contact with lead as it flows through pipes and home plumbing. Savannah's Water Quality Reports contain information about lead and lead testing results. The current report as well as the past five annual reports can be found here  Savannah Water Quality . The American Water Works Association created a short video Lead In Drinking Water to explain how water can come in contact with lead and ways to reduce exposure.

Reduce Your Risk Of Lead Exposure

  • Flush your pipes - When water has sat overnight in your pipes or while you've been away for a few days, let it run for a few seconds to get "fresh" water from the water mains. Let the water run until the temperature changes or count to 10.
  • Use only cold water for drinking and cooking.
  • Remove and clean faucet aerators every 3 months.
  • If you use a water dispenser from your refrigerator or the kitchen sink, remember to follow the maintenance guidelines and change out the filters accordingly.
