Update: An adult male was arrested the morning of July 5 for possession of an illegal firearm (16-11-122) in connection to the July 2 shooting at the Oglethorpe Mall. During the course of the investigation, information has revealed that this individual and other identified suspects in this case have known gang affiliations. To preserve the investigation of the case, the names and identities of those involved will not be released at this time, but additional details will be forthcoming.
“There can be no tolerance for such meaningless violence in our community,” said Chief of Police Lenny B. Gunther. “The Savannah Police Department remains committed to ensuring justice is served.”
The Savannah Police Department continues to work closely with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office to ensure that all charges brought forward are appropriate, fully supported by the facts of the case, and filed in accordance with legal procedures.

SPD Obtains Arrest Warrants in Oglethorpe Mall Shooting
Savannah – The Savannah Police Department in collaboration with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office has obtained several arrest warrants in connection with the July 2 shooting at the Oglethorpe Mall.
Two of the suspects are currently hospitalized at Memorial Health University Medical Center where they were treated for injuries sustained during the incident. The suspects, who are both under the age of 18, were served with warrants for felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18, and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.
Once released from the hospital, the suspects will be taken into custody and immediately transported to the detention center where they will await formal charges from the District Attorney. To preserve the investigation of the case, the names and identities of those involved will not be released at this time, but additional details will be forthcoming.
“The Savannah Police Department intends to hold all those involved in this senseless crime accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said Chief of Police Lenny B. Gunther.
