City Crews Respond to Minor Sewage Spill on GA-25 Connector

City of Savannah Marketing and Communications Posted on October 23, 2025

SAVANNAH – City of Savannah staff responded to a minor sewage spill at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at 1991 GA-25 Connector.

The spill resulted from an air release valve (ARV) failure in a sanitary sewer force main. An estimated 7,000 gallons spilled before the spill was mitigated. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) guidelines classify this as a minor spill, which is a spill under 10,000 gallons.

The force main system was set to an operating condition such that spill ceased.  Repairs to the air release valve were ongoing at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23 and expected to be completed by 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct 24.

The City is distributing spill notifications via a news release and area signage. All agencies, Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department, and the City of Savannah Office of Communications, were notified per state guidelines.
