City Celebrates Guy Minick Youth Sports Complex Improvements

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah invites the community to join officials and staff on Oct. 23 to celebrate multiple improvements to the Guy Minick Youth Sports Complex including brand new lighting on the football field and new batting cages for the baseball field.

In April of this year, City Council approved a contract to install a new ballfield lighting system for youth and adult sports teams to conduct practices and games during evening hours. The new lighting, which replaced a deteriorated system, allows for longer use of the field from rental groups and during tournament play.

The batting cages at Guy Minick Complex were recently expanded adding a second cage to allow more teams to take advantage of the feature during league practices, games and tournaments. The nearly $874,000 investment was made possible through the Recreation Re-Imagined Initiative approved by City Council in 2021.
