Municipal Archives’ SCMP Residency Team Hosts Teacher Training on Savannah’s Interfaith History

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah’s Municipal Archives will host a free teacher training and educational engagement session on Savannah’s Interfaith history, Monday, Feb. 10.

The session, led by the Savannah Community Memory Project (SCMP) Residency Team, will introduce the Faith in Action: Perspectives on Savannah’s Interfaith Community project.

Designed for eighth-grade teachers and students, this project supports Georgia’s Social Studies Standards of Excellence with an educational website exploring Savannah’s interfaith history, past and present social initiatives, and diverse faith traditions.

Attendees will learn how to integrate this new resource into lesson plans, access archival materials and engage in a live Q&A with the residency team. The project, selected as the first SCMP Residency Project, features over 30 recorded interviews with community leaders, historians, and citizens.

“The SCMP Residency Project provides a creative way to collect, preserve, and share Savannah’s history,” Luciana Spracher Municipal Archives Director said. “Through the Faith in Action residency, we are preserving the voices and experiences of Savannah’s diverse faith communities, which bisect across all segments of our wider community, showcasing their contributions to the city’s history and civic life.”

The event is free, but space is limited. Registration is required. Educators, homeschool leaders, and community members can register at savannahga.gov/FaithRegistration
