Dunbar, Paul Laurence. Poems of Cabin and Field. New York: Dodd, Meads, and Company, 1899.
Dunbar was born in 1872 to former enslaved parents. He began writing poetry at the age of six. When he died in 1906, at the young age of 33, he left behind a significant body of work including poetry, novels, short stories, plays, and song lyrics.
