 City to Hold Honorary Street Designation Ceremony for Bishop C.M. Bailey Way

 

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah will designate a portion of Ogeechee Road in front of the Ogeechee Road United House of Prayer for All People, Bishop C.M. Bailey Way on Tuesday, April 2 at 12:30 p.m.

The honorary designation was approved by City Council on February 22, 2024. The ceremony will take place in front of the United House of Prayer. City officials will close the portion of Ogeechee Road to all vehicle traffic between W. 34th St. and W. 35th St. from 11:45 a.m. to the end of the ceremony, approximately 2 p.m. 

The late Bishop C.M. Bailey passed away on Aug. 11, 2023. He was the fourth Bishop of the United House of Prayer for All People, which has established affordable housing in various communities around the nation, including Savannah, scholarship opportunities for youth and extracurricular activities like sports, musical bands, and choirs. 

Bishop C.M. Bailey led the Ogeechee Road United House of Prayer for All People for 15 years. 

The honorary street name designation is intended to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the community. The designation does not interfere with the official name of the street.
