City to Offer Array of Aquatics and Swimming Pool Activities

Summer Kick-Off Pool Party Scheduled for May 29

SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah's Recreation and Leisure Services Department will open all four city pools on May 28 and host a wide array of aquatic programs for residents this summer including swim lessons, water aerobics classes, junior lifeguard classes, lap swimming and swim teams.

On May 29 at Daffin Park Pool, the City will host a Summer Kick-Off Pool Party with food, drinks and a DJ to celebrate the beginning of summer vacation. The party starts at 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The City of Savannah owns and operates four pools: The Daffin Park Pool (1301 E. Victory Dr.), Tompkins Community Center Pool (2333 Ogeechee Rd.), Bowles C. Ford Park Pool (1900 Stiles Ave.), and W.W. Law Pool (900 E. Bolton St.)

All information regarding the City's aquatics and swimming programming and information on pools can be found at savannahga.gov/aquatics.

Over the summer, all City pools will operate Monday through Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and reopen from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Saturday, pools will be open from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Daffin Park Pool and Bowles C. Ford Pool will also be open on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30p.m. and again from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Junior Lifeguard Class

Junior lifeguarding classes for youth ages 12 to 14 who want to learn what it's like to be a lifeguard will be offered. Participants can strengthen their swimming skills, team building, and learn the importance of pool safety. Classes are May 18 through 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Daffin Park pool.

Swim Lessons

Community members of all ages can learn how to swim at four pools across Savannah for just $25. There are 15 slots available per session and four slots available for our tiny tots, ages 3-5, per session. The majority of swim sessions are for youth ages 3-16. The City also offers two adult sessions with a morning slot at Daffin Park and an evening slot at Tompkins pool. Saturday classes are also available at Daffin Park only. Residents can register at Daffin Park on May 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will continue until classes are filled.

Summer Kick-Off Pool Party

The City will start the summer with a pool party taking place on May 29 at 3:30 p.m. at the Daffin Park Pool. Food, drinks and a DJ will be provided to celebrate the beginning of summer vacation. City staff will announce summer programming, host a safety demonstration and join residents in pool activities.

Swim Teams

Swim teams are a great way for youth to grow their love for water sports and become confident swimmers. The City welcomes everyone ages 6 to 18 to join. Daffin, Bowles C. Ford, Tompkins and W.W. Law pools are accepting swimmers. Residents are encouraged to sign up at the pool most convenient for you starting on May 28. Practice will be held Monday through Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at all pools. Meets are scheduled for June 28 and July 12.

Lap Swimming

Starting June 4, community members are invited to the Daffin Park Pool for lap swimming every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Water Aerobics

Water Aerobics is a fun and healthy way for residents, ages 17 and up, to spend their afternoon this summer. Classes will run from June 3 to Sept. 1 every Monday through Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Daffin Park Pool.
