 City Encourages Residents to Apply for Expanded Georgia Power Discount Program 

 

SAVANNAH – Eligible residents can now apply for Georgia Power’s expanded Income Qualified Senior Discount program. The program offers a monthly discount of $33.50 on electricity bills for qualified households. 

 

To qualify for the electricity bill discount households meeting at least one of the following criteria may qualify for the expanded discount program:  


  • Be 65 years of age or older with a household income that is 200% or less of the federal poverty level adjusted for household
  • Receive social security disability insurance
  • Receive supplemental security income 
  • Participate in the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program (HUD Section 8) 

Eligible residents can apply for the discount on Georgia Power’s website. Applications are processed on a rolling basis, and residents are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to start receiving the discount.   

 

The City’s Office of Sustainability provided a recommendation for this program to Georgia Power based on feedback from community members collected during the City’s Energy Efficiency Workshops.
