City Operations Return to Normal Following Winter Storm
SAVANNAH – The City of Savannah’s government operations have returned to a normal schedule following last week’s closures due to a winter storm that brought 1-3 inches of snow, and multiple days of below-freezing temperatures to the area.
Due to the icy conditions of the roadways last week, Sanitation operations were halted. All operations returned to a normal operating scheduled this week. Residential garbage collection will focus efforts on collecting the large volume of curbside garbage on a normal weekly schedule.
Residents are advised to place their refuse cart at the normal curbside location on the normal day collections are made. Recycling will be collected this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The Dean Forest Landfill and Bacon Park Transfer station both reopened this week, operating on normal hours.
The City’s Revenue Department has extended the due date for alcohol licenses renewal. The original deadline, Jan. 31., has been extended to Feb. 7 by 5 p.m. to accommodate businesses impacted by the closures last week.
The Jan. 23 City Council meeting was postponed to Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. The regular meeting will also include the first public hearing on Georgia House Bill 581. The City intends to opt-out of HB 581. City Council will hold two more public hearings on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. All meetings will be held at the Eli Whitney Administrative Complex, 2 Laura Ave., Building G.
