Alderwoman Bell Appointed to National League of Cities’ Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) Board
SAVANNAH – City of Savannah Post 1 At-Large Alderwoman Carol Bell has been elected to the National League of Cities (NLC) Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) Board for a two-year term to develop and guide programs among female local elected officials and allies.
As an NLC’s WIMG Board member, Alderwoman Bell will play a key role among a diverse group of local leaders to encourage collaboration, networking and the development of resources and programs beneficial to American communities that can be replicated across the country. The election occurred at the WIMG membership meeting during the 2024 City Summit in Tampa, Fla.
"Women In Municipal Government (WIMG) is important to Savannah because it affords members from across the country an opportunity to come together and discuss issues and solutions in their individual communities that often have applicability in other cities,” Bell said. “It is so important for women to be represented at the leadership table because they bring a different perspective and inclusion when addressing community issues."
“It is crucial that we bring together local leaders that are representative of all communities to share solutions, and challenges from their hometowns, which are used to develop NLC policies and programs,” National League of Cities President Steve Patterson, Mayor of Athens, Ohio said. “Bring the experience and leadership of Alderwoman Bell to serve as an at large member on NLC’s WIMG Board this year goes a long way to ensuring every city, town and village has the resources they need to lift up their communities and improve the lives of their residents.”
This year’s council leadership will consist of President Adriana Rocha Garcia, Councilmember, San Antonio, TX; First Vice President Lisa Ford, Councilor, Broken Arrow, OK; and Second Vice President Amy Shuler Goodwin, Mayor, Charleston, WV.
