Lewis Howard Latimer helped make electric lighting reliable and affordable, a breakthrough that led to illuminated streets and safer public spaces. Today, street lighting remains a critical part of traffic safety by improving visibility for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists, especially at night. As we work toward a safer Savannah with the Vision Zero traffic safety program, infrastructure like lighting plays an important role in preventing crashes and protecting lives.
