Forsyth Park

OverVIEW

Forsyth Park is one of the most well-known public spaces in Savannah, serving residents and visitors alike. This page was created to keep the public informed about ongoing City of Savannah projects, planning efforts, and updates related to the park. Our goal is to provide transparent information and ensure the community remains engaged in the process.

Originally established in the 1840s, Forsyth Park began as a 10-acre plot and has since expanded to cover 30 acres. The park is named after Governor John Forsyth and has been a central part of Savannah’s civic and cultural life for over 150 years. Key features include the iconic 1858 fountain at the north end, historic monuments, sports courts, walking paths, and open green space. The park layout and many of its features have remained consistent with the original 19th-century plan.
