Construction Inspections / Permits
Fire protection permits will now be submitted online through eTrac Savannah.
Use this link (eTrac Step-by-Step User Guide) to help walk you through the new system.
Special Note: While going through registration for your new account you must use a company email.

Note:
If you choose to submit to our office a company check, or money order will be required to accompany your paper plans at drop off. A copy of your eTrac summary page will be required.
Paper plans and checks or money orders for permits can still be dropped off at our office located at:

Can be mailed to Savannah Fire Headquarters at:
121 E. Oglethorpe Ave. Savannah GA, 31401 Attn: Savannah Fire Marshal Office.
The printed Stamped/Approved to scale plans will still be REQUIRED on your job site for inspection.
- Posting the permit. Issued permit shall be POSTED on the premises designated therein at all times and shall be readily available for inspection by the fire code official.
- If installation / modification / alteration begins before the permit is issued, you will be subject to enforcement action and working without a permit fee (see fee schedule).
- When reviews are completed the contractor will be contacted by an eTrac email.
- Please review the Savannah Fire Marshal Office Permit Fee Schedule for permit fees.
- Fees are Non-Refundable.
The printed Stamped/Approved plan will still be REQUIRED on your job site for inspections.
Inspection requests are completed by calling the
Fire Marshal’s Office at 912-644-5960.
Please have your permit number ready when calling to request an inspection.
Inspections are scheduled according to the order in which they are received. Scheduling is based on the Fire Marshals’ availability. Wait times vary based on the volume of requests at the period. Every effort will be made to promptly respond to schedule an inspection.
Request For Inspection Procedure:
- Hours for paperwork acceptance are 9am – 4pm, Monday through Friday except for a holiday.
- Contractors shall be responsible for requesting Savannah Fire Marshal’s Office for inspections.
- Verbal requests for inspections will not be accepted.
- A Fire Marshal will contact you to schedule the inspection. No inspection shall be considered approved or scheduled until such time as you are contacted by a Fire Marshal to confirm an inspection date and time.
- Allow 2 hours from the scheduled time for the arrival of the inspector.
- The appropriate representative must be present upon arrival, if no one on site at arrival the inspection will be canceled.
The printed Stamped/Approved plans will still be REQUIRED on your job site for inspection.
Fire Sprinkler Systems:
Please submit your current sprinkler license issued by the state of GA, at least three copies of scaled installation drawings (to include piping and reflected ceiling), a copy of the approved civil utility (underground supply) where applicable, two product submittal packages with all necessary hydraulic calculations, and a permit application to the Fire Marshal’s Office. A Fire Sprinkler permit is required on new system installations and for modifications and/or alterations to existing systems. Fire Sprinkler Systems and plans shall be per NFPA 13, 13D, or 13R as amended by the State of Georgia.
Fire Alarm Systems:
Please submit your current low voltage license issued by the state of GA, at least three copies of scaled installation drawings, two product submittal packages with battery calculations, and a permit application with narrative to the Fire Marshal’s Office. A Fire Alarm permit is required on new system installations and all modifications and/or alterations to existing systems. Fire Alarm Systems and plans shall be per NFPA 72, as amended by the State of Georgia.
Fire Suppression Systems:
Please submit your current suppression license issued by the state of GA, at least three sets of scaled drawings indicating appliances and hoods or rooms and equipment to be protected, all suppression equipment, and a permit application to the Fire Marshal’s Office. A suppression permit is required for all new system installations and/or system alterations. All installations of fire suppression systems shall, where applicable, be installed in compliance with one of the following; NFPA 17 or 17A and U.L. 300, or NFPA 12, or NFPA 12A , or NFPA 13, or NFPA 2001 as amended by the State of Georgia.
Gas Detection Systems:
Please submit your current low voltage license issued by the state of GA, at least three copies of scaled installation drawings, two product submittal packages with battery calculations, and a permit application, to the Fire Marshal’s Office. A Gas Detection permit is required on new system installations and all modifications and/or alterations to existing systems. Gas Detection Systems and plans shall be per NFPA 72, and NFPA 720 as amended by the State of Georgia.
Area of Refuge:
Please submit your low voltage license issued by the state of GA, at least three copies of scaled installation drawings, two product submittal packages with battery calculations, and a permit application, to the Fire Marshal’s Office. An Area of Refuge permit is required on new system installations and all modifications and/or alterations to existing systems. Area of Refuge Systems and plans shall be per NFPA 101 and NFPA 72 as amended by the State of Georgia.
