Bonaventure Cemetery to Host First Ladies of Georgia Camellias Dedication Ceremony
SAVANNAH (Jan. 12, 2024) – Bonaventure Cemetery will host a dedication ceremony for twelve specially cultivated camellias named for the First Ladies of Georgia on Saturday, Jan. 20.
The event, a partnership between the City of Savannah’s Cemeteries Division and dedicated gardener volunteers from the University of Georgia (UGA) Extension, marks months of work to beautify the grounds of Bonaventure Cemetery.
The First Lady of Georgia Camellias will serve as a living tribute to the rich heritage and natural splendor of the area, while honoring the wives of Georgia’s former leaders.
The ceremony will take place against the scenic backdrop of Bonaventure Cemetery, offering attendees an opportunity to witness these exquisite flowers in bloom.
As part of the event, there will be a presentation on the significance and history of camellias in Bonaventure Cemetery, followed by a dedication from Cemeteries’ Director, Samuel Beetler, II, Liz Pascual, Master Gardener with the UGA Extension office, and Pat Alhouse, President of the Bonaventure Historical Society.
