[ARCHIVED] City celebrates southside tree planting

Alderman Thomas and City Park and Tree staff plant the first of 100 Crape Myrtles in the Abercorn Street median.jpg

For Immediate Release
Date: January 19, 2016

District 6 Alderman Tony Thomas was joined by City staff today to plant the first of 100 Crape Myrtle trees in the Abercorn Street median between Deerfield Road and Magnolia Avenue.

“Every day, thousands of people pass through this area on their way in and out of Savannah. By adding these trees, we are creating a gateway that is truly welcoming to all,” said Alderman Thomas.

The new trees will help to reconnect this section of the Abercorn corridor with similar plantings along the rest of the corridor now that the Truman Parkway and Abercorn Street interchange road work has been completed.
