[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: February 29, 2016

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 220 Deerwood Road, at 2:08 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2016. The spill was the result of a sanitary sewer Lift Station control failure. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 520 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 3:00 p.m. The control failure was corrected and the flow was contained in the canal. City crews spread lime on contaminated areas and samples were taken at pond. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site where discharge went into pond and along other shore locations. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
