[ARCHIVED] City responds to minor sewage spill

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at the City of Savannah I&D Treatment Plant, Water Filtration Plant Road, Port Wentworth at 2:15 p.m. on Monday, May 23. The spill was the result of a break on 3” force main from sewage grinder station. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 170 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 4:30 p.m. City crews turned the station off and City maintenance crews repaired the break. Spill notifications will be placed at the spill site/plant and the St. Augustine Creek/Highway 21. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
