WHAT: Elementary School Art Competition Exhibit Opening & Awards Ceremony
WHEN: Wednesday, July 6, 2016; Exhibit Opening 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Awards Ceremony 4 p.m.
WHO: Local elementary school children will be honored for their artistic talents while celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District through art
WHERE: Savannah City Hall, Bull Street at Bay Street
WHY: In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District (designated in 1966), the City sponsored an art competition for Chatham County elementary school students. 298 submissions were received from both public and private schools. 43 pieces, the work of children in grades 1 – 5, were selected to be exhibited in City Hall and in the Midtown Municipal Building between July and December 2016. The winning artwork features buildings, streets, squares and parks, the riverfront, and monuments, and is in a variety of media including watercolor, pen and ink, pencil, acrylics, and photography.
