[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 11:03 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, at 106 Okatee Dr. An estimated 177 gallons spilled before the leak was corrected at 2 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was caused by a defective sanitary sewer main inside the storm water manhole. Crews repaired the defect in the gravity sewer main. The storm drainage system was mitigated to minimize contamination of State Waters. Notifications were posted at the spill site, Betz Creek at Penn Waller Road and Betz Creek at Walthour Road.

All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
