City of Savannah Water Resources crews responded to four minor sewage spills, three related to power outages and one to extraneous water during the hurricane event. All spills were classified as minor spills under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
4018 Clinch Street
The spill took place at 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 11. An estimated 80 gallons were spilled before being corrected at 4:25 p.m. The spill was caused when extraneous water caused water in a manhole to overflow. City crews modified the lift station operations by adding another pump. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site and at Springfield Canal/West Victory Drive and Bowles Ford Park. All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.
101 Bobstay Court
The spill took place at 11:27 a.m. on Oct. 11. An estimated 40 gallons were spilled before being corrected at 12:47 p.m. The spill was caused by the weather event causing a power outage at Lift Station 27. City crews repaired the generator and cleaned up the area. Spill notification markers will be placed at the spill site and at ditch near Captain Butlers – 115 Penrose Drive, Whitemarsh Island. All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.
1356 Lavon Avenue
The spill took place at 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 11. An estimated 3240 gallons were spilled before being corrected at 1:39 p.m. The spill was caused by the weather event causing a power outage at Lift Station 12 overflowing manholes. City crews repaired the generator and cleaned up the area. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site and at Halcyon Bluff Boat Ramp. All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.
54 Litchfield Drive
The spill took place at 8:54 a.m. on Oct. 11. An estimated 530 gallons were spilled before being corrected at 9:47 a.m. The spill was caused by the weather event causing power outage and overflowing manhole. Crews pumped and hauled sewage from station wet-well. Portable generator is being sent to site. Cleaned up area with City Vac truck. Spill notification markers were placed at the spill site, drainage pond and the Kings Ferry Landing Boat Ramp. All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.
