City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at Springfield Canal – South – West Gwinnett on Friday, October 14, 2016. The spill was the result of flood waters in the canal undermining the sewer manhole and draining into the canal. Total volume discharged was 85 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 10:55 a.m. and the spill was corrected at 12:20 p.m. City crews plugged the main into the canal and by-passed the sewer main. Contractor will repair the manhole and main. Spill notifications were placed at the spill site and West Bay Street at Springfield Canal.
All entities (Georgia Environmental Protection Division, and Heath Department) were contacted.
