City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at East 46th and Harmon Street, Monday, March 18. A grease blockage in a City sewer main caused a system surcharge which resulted in a sewage discharge into a storm catch basin. The total volume discharged 88 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.
City Water and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 2:17 p.m. today, and the spill was corrected by 3:55p.m. The std stoppage was cleared, cleaned storm system and repaired an underground defect (crack) in the sewer main.
All agencies required by the State EPD were notified. Lime was placed on the affected area. The storm system was sampled and a spill notification was put at Casey Canal at 2 Derenne, Casey Canal at Sallie Mood, and the Montgomery Crossroads Storm Water Station at the Hayner’s Creek Bridge.
