[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

Date: January 23, 2017

City of Savannah Water Resources crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at 13102 Largo Avenue. An estimated 1485 gallons spilled before the leak was corrected at 11:35 p.m. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was caused by an overflowing manhole due to the heavy rainfall. City crews utilized three jet vacuum trucks to remove the overflow and throttled back on three sewer lift stations to stop the overflow. Notifications will be placed at the Coffee Bluff Canal/Plantation Drive and at the River at the end of Apache Ave. All regulatory authorities were notified. Public notification is required per State guidelines.
