For Immediate Release
Date: February 26, 2017

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 8 South Millward Road at 6 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017. The spill was caused by a tree that fell on an aerial sewer main crossing a canal.

Crews cut the downed tree and set up bypass pumps to repair the leak. The area was cleaned by City jet vacuum trucks, and spill notification markers were placed at the spill site, and at the drainage canal along Wilmington Island Road and at the Wilmington River. The sewer main will be replaced.

An estimated 420 gallons of sewage spilled before it was corrected at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. This is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
