[ARCHIVED] City crews respond to minor sewage spill

For Immediate Release
Date: April 3, 2017

City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 624 Southbridge Blvd at 1:39 p.m. on Sunday, April 2. The spill was the result of an air release valve failure on the sewer force main. The total volume discharged was estimated to be 450 gallons. The amount of this spill is classified as a minor spill under State Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The spill was corrected by 2:10 p.m. City crews shut the lift station off to stop the overflow and then shut the air release valve off temporarily. The valve will be permanently repaired on April 3, 2017. Crews removed the storm/sewage mix of water with City vacuum trucks from the area affected by the spill. Spill notifications will be placed at the spill site and the pond will be sampled. All agencies required by the State EPD were notified.
