For Immediate Release
Date: October 23, 2017
The City of Savannah will host two stakeholder meetings to discuss and gather feedback on a proposed abandoned shopping cart controls ordinance:
Tuesday, October 24
9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Savannah Civic Center, Mason Room
Monday, October 30
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Live Oak Public Library, Southwest Branch, 14097 Abercorn Street
As currently drafted, the ordinance will apply to merchants with 10 or more shopping carts in their inventory. The purpose of the meetings is for stakeholders to provide feedback regarding the ordinance prior to it being presented to City Council for consideration and adoption.
Accumulation of shopping carts in neighborhoods, canals, ditches, and City rights-of-way amounts to a nuisance, which reduces property values, promotes blight and deterioration, and interferes with pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The ordinance is designed to abate these conditions.
