City Removing Trees on Victory Drive

three treesSAVANNAH, GA (January 29, 2018)— On Tuesday the City of Savannah will be working with one of its annual tree removal contractors to take down three Live Oak trees on E. Victory Dr. near Waters Ave.  The decision to remove the trees was made after City arborists determined the trees pose a higher risk of danger to the public after a recent inspection.

The adjacent school had been working closely with the City during a renovation project to preserve these trees throughout the construction.  After the demolition of a parking lot the arborists found there were not enough remaining roots to support the tree and the City does not feel comfortable leaving the trees in place.after photo

Besides the issue with the root systems, the tree closest to Waters Avenue has been pruned back for many years to keep it off of nearby utilities and traffic signals.  The middle tree has been showing signs of decline for the last few years, so the removal of these two trees would be anticipated in the near future

The trees will be replaced by the mid-February with new Live Oak trees, which will help keep the historic tree canopy in place for future generations to enjoy.

One eastbound lane of E. Victory Dr. will be blocked off tomorrow from Paulsen to Waters Avenue for few hours beginning at 9 a.m.
