City Expands Community Center Hours for Youth Activities

SAVANNAH, GA (May 16, 2018) — The Mayor and Council have approved extended community center hours at two City recreation centers to ensure Savannah’s youth have a variety of positive activities in which to engage in during the summer months.

The W.W. Law Regional Center on the City’s east side and the recently renovated Tompkins Regional Center on the City’s west side will operate with extended hours from 8 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday through the summer months while school is out of session.

Both centers feature gymnasiums and will be open for 13-18 year olds to enjoy playing basketball and other youth-focused center activities.

There are over 70 educational and enrichment opportunities offered by the City to Savannah’s youth during the summer months. For a list of summer programs offered to youth, visit http://www.savannahga.gov/SummerPrograms.

Parks and Recreation Services Director Barry Baker will be available to discuss the extended hours and youth activities offered by the City TODAY at 2 p.m. at the Tompkins Community Center located at 2319 Ogeechee Rd.
