SAVANNAH, GA (July 23, 2018) — City of Savannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 10:44 a.m. at 210 Andover Street. An estimated 510 gallons was released before the spill was corrected at 11:35 a.m. This is classified as a minor spill under state Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

The cause of the spill was a gravity sewer main break. The main break was repaired and City jet-vacuum trucks were utilized to remove storm and sewage mix from ditch behind Andover Street and storm system downstream. Sewage discharge was contained in ditch and storm system and crews mitigated site cleanup.

Spill notifications were placed at the spill site, on Eisenhower/Casey Canal, Sallie Mood/Casey Canal and at Montgomery Crossroad at Hayner’s Creek. All state and local agencies were notified as required by state guidelines.
