City Acquires Property Needed for Edgemere-Sackville Neighborhood Park
SAVANNAH, GA (September 27, 2018) —Today Savannah City Council voted to purchase a corner lot in the Edgemere-Sackville neighborhood to create a new park. The property is located on the southeast corner of E. 58th and Cedar streets.
Last year the City designated Edgemere-Sackville as the first “Savannah Shines” neighborhood and for the past year the City has been working with homeowners and private companies to reduce blight and improve the neighborhood by organizing cleanups, funding home renovations, and building houses.
The City is purchasing the property from L.E. and V.C. Mitchell for $18,000. Earlier this year the City purchased two vacant lots directly east of the corner lot. The playground will span all three lots and is scheduled to open to the public this winter.
