City Hosting Job Fair for Residents
SAVANNAH, GA (October 29, 2018) — The City of Savannah is encouraging residents to attend a free job fair at the Civic Center this Monday, November 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Over 100 employers have registered with the City offering over 2500 jobs. Participants in the job fair will have the opportunity to meet employers, apply for jobs and receive resume assistance on-site. Employers participating come from industries such as construction, health-care and hospitality. There will be food trucks on site at 11:30 a.m. for residents who arrive before the event begins.
“This is our best way to fight poverty, a job will do more than anything else,” said Mayor Eddie Deloach. “We want to give everybody an opportunity to get a job or a better paying job.”
The City will also offer free job skill classes to help residents prepare for the job fair on Thursday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor of the Civic Center. Classes will include interviewing techniques, dressing for success, career skills training and how to address criminal records. A detailed schedule of classes can be found at www.savannahga.gov/jobfair.
The City’s job fair aligns with the priority of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction within the Savannah Forward strategic plan. Residents and businesses seeking more information can call the Human Services Department at (912) 651-6520.
