City Celebrates Addition to Treat Park

SAVANNAH, GA (October 30, 2018) — The City of Savannah held a ribbon cutting ceremony for an addition to Treat Park this morning.

Dozens of community members gathered in the east Savannah neighborhood off of Treat Avenue to celebrate the addition of a pavilion and picnic tables to the park.

Alderman John Hall took some time to recognize the East Savannah Neighborhood. Association led by President Ella Harmon. “This neighborhood association is one of the oldest in the City and it never ceases to be active, that is to be commended,” he said.

Treat Park is a third of an acre bordered by Treat Avenue and Gable Street. An additional sheltered pavilion completes the valuable greenspace in the east Savannah neighborhood which already includes a playground with trees and benches. Savannah Gardens, Gordonston and Avondale neighborhoods are in close proximity.

“This project was made possible because of the close relationship the City has with its neighborhoods, the leadership of Alderman Hall to move this project forward and the hard work and dedication of our city staff. This project is an example of how SPLOST funding can improve our neighborhoods,” said City Manager Rob Hernandez.

The addition to Treat Park aligns with the priority of Neighborhood Revitalization within the Savannah Forward strategic plan. The addition to the park was made possible by voter-approved SPLOST funds.

Today’s ceremony was also attended by City Manager Rob Hernandez and Chief Infrastructure Officer Heath Lloyd.
