Mayor Announces Gift Drive for Christmas Motorcade
SAVANNAH, GA (November 20, 2018) —City of Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach announced today that all City community centers and City Hall will be collecting gifts from residents in support of the annual Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.
Civic organizations, businesses, churches, schools, scout troops and individual citizens are encouraged to help with the collection of gifts for the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade. Collection centers will be accepting new, unwrapped gifts for the Mayor’s Christmas Motorcade until December 3. A list of needed gifts can be found at www.savannahga.gov/GiftList.
The Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the National Guard Armory and proceed down Eisenhower Drive to Georgia Regional Hospital. Mayors and municipal governments from across southeast Georgia will participate in the parade.
“Let’s not forget what Christmas is all about. It’s not about what you get, it’s about what you give,” said City of Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach. “It time to get excited about giving to those less fortunate than us this year.”
The Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade began in 1959 at the request of then-Governor Ernest Vandiver as a way of providing holiday gifts for the patients of Georgia's mental health and retardation hospitals. The program is also aimed at raising awareness of the needs of Georgia's mental hospitals.
