Mayors Motorcade Takes Holiday Gifts to Georgia Regional Hospital

SAVANNAH, GA (December 5, 2018) —City of Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach, along with City staff, hosted the annual Mayors Motorcade today with the Georgia Municipal Association.

The motorcade began at the National Guard Armory and ended at the Georgia Regional Hospital where Mayor Eddie DeLoach delivered multiple boxes of donations collected from the City’s recreation centers and City Hall.

“It is a great honor to donate these gifts on behalf of the City of Savannah. Thank you to all of the cities in our region who came out to participate and donate to a great cause,” said Mayor Eddie DeLoach.

Over 60 fire trucks, police cars and city vehicles from municipal governments across Southeast Georgia participated in the motorcade. The participating governments included Hinesville, Rincon, Garden City, Richmond Hill, Pembroke, Kingsland, St. Mary’s, Metter, Tybee Island, Waycross, Douglas and Ben Hill County.

“The Mayors Motorcade is a great way for our city officials to share the joy and hope of Christmas with some of those who are in great need but are often forgotten,” said Mayor of LaGrange Georgia, Jim Thorton, who serves as the state chair for the Mayors Motorcade.

The Mayors Motorcade began in 1959 by governor Ernest Vandiver (at the request of his wife, Betty) to take holiday gifts to patients of Georgia’s Mental Health Hospitals and raise awareness. There are five Regional Mental Health Hospitals in Georgia: Savannah, Atlanta, Milledgeville, Augusta and Columbus.Mayor with Hospital Staff
