Applications Open for the Summer 500 Youth Employment Program

SAVANNAH, GA (February 5, 2019) — City of Savannah Mayor Eddie DeLoach officially launched the fourth annual Summer 500 Program by encouraging High school students aged 16 and over and currently enrolled in either a public or private school to apply for the program.

Savannah-Chatham Public Schools superintendent Dr. Ann Levett, Mayor Pro Tem Carol Bell, business leaders and a past program participant joined the Mayor to tout the success of the program, which is now in its fourth year.

“This is an opportunity for kids to have a job,” said Mayor Eddie DeLoach. “We want kids to learn what it means to work.”

The Summer 500 Program has provided jobs, soft-skills training, education and life skills to area high school students. It’s a major public-private partnership between local, private, public, and non-profit agencies which employ students throughout the City.

“This is a chance to work with our business partners to create a first opportunity for our youth,” said SCCPSS superintendent Dr. Ann Levett.

Students who are interested in this internship opportunity are asked to submit an application, which can be found online at the City of Savannah’s website at www.savannahga.gov/summer500.

Additionally, the registration portal is open for local businesses that want to mentor our youth and be a part of this exciting program as an employer.

The deadline for registration for business and student internship applications is Sunday, March 31, 2019.
